Book Review: Lioness Arising

Lisa Bevere’s newest book, Lioness Arising is a powerful wake-up call for Christian women. Stemming from a vision that God gave her years ago, Bevere introduces the lioness as a point of comparison to illustrate women’s potential power, passion, prowess, and purpose once they are stirred awake.

Lioness Arising is theologically ground-breaking. It challenges long-held beliefs about the role of women in the church. As a proponent of gender equality, Bevere advocates for women as viable members of the body of Christ with God-given gifts and roles to fulfill. Women will begin to release the weight of religious baggage that has kept them in their so-called place.

Bevere speaks to the multi-dimensionality of women’s roles, such as that of wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters of God. She encourages women to be fierce in protecting all children, acquire night vision to rescue those caught in the grip of darkness, to nurture other women, and to advocate for the voiceless. Christian women will be inspired to fearlessly stand up and step into position as joint heirs with men of God’s promises and bearers of His light.

This book introduces a change into the landscape of Christian thinking concerning women’s role in ministry. It has been anticipated by countless women who have known deep down inside that they have been created to be world-changers. As a true spiritual mentor bent on helping women realize that they are God’s creative answer to the problems the world is facing, Bevere shares sketches of personal experiences in her own spiritual journey. With solid biblical grounding throughout its entirety, this book will motivate women to awaken, rise up, lift their individual and collective voice and fulfill their God-given purpose to make a difference in the world.

  1. I am actually working on a blog post on this very topic, myself, and should have it out in a few days! I am very curious as to what the extent of the role she believes women should have in the church is. Does it extend to being an ordained minister?

i got to read a sneak preview of chapter 1 on the messengerinternational website and i was truly moved. i began to ask God right there to tell me who i really am because i realize that there’s so much more to me than i think, and that i can’t afford to let anybody but God define me…there needs to be an awakening and an arising. i hope all ladies get to pick up this book like i will.

I can’t wait to read this book. I just finished another one of her books :). She has had a major impact on my life. Thanks for the review! Makes me even more excited to read the book!!!!

  4. GIRL…I HAVE BEEN STIRRED AWAKE!! Help me control it, Lisa! 😉 I am a member of a church where SEVERAL women are stuck in their “so-called place” and are unwilling to CHANGE. Or have someone like ME, come in with some God directed change… whooo… that makes them extremely nervous. These ladies don’t know how to handle it or know what to do. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to “motivate women to awaken, rise up, lift their individual and collective voice and fulfill their God-given purpose to make a difference in the world” and our church and community.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Ibelisse Sanchez! Blessings to ya’ll !!

I saw Lisa on the Joni Show talking about this book and it is the “Big Girl” version of her other book “Fight Like A Girl”. This is a manual of enlightened feminine power and it was Esther who was born for such a time as this, when the world is in imbalance and we need to right it again.

  7. I can’t wait to read this book! I saw Lisa on Joni on Daystar this morning, then on Life Today with James and Betty Robinson. Everything I heard fits so well with who and what Aglow International has been about for 40 years, wow!

I hope to read this book. Your review “hit home” with me, since I am also one who wants to make a great impact on society. I want to leave behind a Christian legacy, when I die. Also, I am always on the lookout for theologically sound reading material for women.

  13. Susan Shearer says:

    Hi Ibelisse,
What a fun idea to share the book and your website. As a strong Christian woman, I am interested in reading this point of view. I often wonder about how much I am allowed by God to do and if I push it too far. This sounds like an empowering perspective.
May God continue to richly bless you and your career.

I’m looking forward to reading “Lioness arising” by Lisa. I was very ill in hospital a few months ago, and amazingly the Lord ministered health back into me. One of the primary ways he used was that I purchased the $149 pack of all the Bevere teaching of CDs and DVDs in Australia and listening to them even on my sickbed and in recovery. The Lord has taken me from near death, to dancing daily for him. Something is arising within me that is new. Bless you Lisa for the lioness within you that you encourage forth by the Spirit in many, including me.

  16. Gail Davies says:

I was excited to hear that this book has been released! I was at the Hillsong Women’s Colour Conference in 2009, when Lisa released the prophetic message about the Lioness. I was really hungery for what she shared about women rising up! I wanted that message for myself, 4 month later I was asked to step as Centre Manager for ONE80TC a Christian based long-term residential training program for young men dealing with life controlling issues…WOW…it’s been 14 months since then and my-oh-my has God utilized me in leading this organization and the team! We are going from strength-to-strength! The enemy hated me stepping into this role that 6 weeks after starting my role I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was a God intervention in itself…I was able to go through that and lead my team and not miss a beat…the Lioness rose up! I saw the attack for what it was…Here I am today, healthly and being the Lioness that God has called me to be! I look forward to reading the book! Thank you Lisa for releasing Gods word over us!

  17. Robin says:

I think this is another important book by Lisa and something women should hear as a prophetic call in this hour. Very exciting!

  18. Joyce Olmstead says:

This sounds like an amazing book. My husband and I have been ministered to through John’s books, and it sounds like Lisa’s is revolutionary as well! Joyce
